Green Jobs boost for Gwent with UK's biggest wind turbine manufacturing set to come to Chepstow

Liberal Democrat Assembly Member Michael German has welcomed the news that 240 skilled green manufacturing jobs are to be created in Chepstow by a world leading bridge construction company.

Mr. German said he was delighted with the news that Mabey Bridge in Chepstow announced a £38 million investment at New House Farm Distribution Park to create a wind turbine manufacturing factory.

He said: "The news is very welcome. People in Chepstow and Caldicot will be delighted. The area is going to be one of the UK's leading green industrial towns. The future's happening here in South East Wales. The site at the Severn bridge will provide about 50 per cent of the UK's requirement for wind turbines - that really puts us on the map."

He added: "It wasn't long ago that Tesco announced their move to Avonmouth with the loss of 600 local jobs. The news of hundreds of new highly skilled jobs in manufacturing is very, very welcome and a big boost for the local economy. This investment goes against the trend where we have seen manufacturing jobs being lost overseas year on year and it's a huge vote of confidence in Chepstow and Caldicot."
