Lower tolls should be introduced for vehicles that emit lower emissions

Michael German, local Liberal Democrat Assembly member is backing the call by the freight Transport Association to introduce lower tolls for goods vehicles that emit lower carbon emissions.

Mr. German said, "This is just the kind of thinking we need. To combat pollution and cut carbon emissions we have to stop beating people and industry with a stick and start offering attractive incentives"

He added that a change in legislation may well be required in the UK Parliament that governs the concession and toll charges but that this "was not a mountain to climb".

He added: "The UK and Welsh Governments should embrace the call for change and back the idea."
